David Arnaud - Director - freelance cameraman/editor
- TV/Video Content Manager for the Freeride World Tour
- Director
- Cameraman - editor
Fascinated by moving pictures for many years, I progressively turned this passion into a job. Not exactly what I had in mind when i graduated from the Graduate Business School of Grenoble! I initially got a lot of experience filming and documenting my many travels and expeditions around the world, pursuing my main other passion which is whitewater kayaking. Looking back at it I realize that the difficult shooting conditions faced on rivers were actually a good learning experience!
I am today the Video and TV content manager for the Freeride World Tour and other sport-related events. My job consists in organizing and, budgeting the video production on the FWT's competitions, and making sure that we deliver the goods to our numerous (and demanding!) clients and media partners, wheither it is the same-day TV news or the 26 min TV episodes delivered a few days later. Feeding our website with daily content is also a big part of the work. Fortunately I am assisted in this challenge by a crew usually composed of 15 to 30 people according the event, from cameramen to sound engineers to helicopter operators to editors to journalist... a pretty big change as opposed to my lonely beginnings, filming kayaking on rivers around the world!
Another crucial part of my job is to work as a director for the TV shows produced after each competition. This is a big challenge as this requires a fine balance between nice pictures, interesting storylines, adequate sponsors visibility and very tight delivery schedules.

CAMERAMAN-EDITOR
Even though my job on the Freeride World Tour mainly is about production and directing, I still work as a freelance cameraman and editor. Here are some of my past clips and favourite edits.
Best-of Big Mountain Fieberbrunn 2011 / A very inspiring music that determined the pace and content of this clip. Soundtrack is Pyraminx by Roger Subirana.
Night paddling
A cool session, thanks to the help of some friends carrying lighting and fog systems to the playspot! Really looks like we brought the playspot to a proper disco!
Veneon 2007
A 2-min clip shot in August 2007 on the Veneon, in the French Alps. This beautiful river was the ideal place to test the camera jib I built this summer. Most of the shots are in slow motion, to better enjoy the fluidity of the camera moves. With this jib I get a much wider choice of camera angles and possibilities. This will be a must on future shootings. Thanks to Mika Hyla, Fabrice Pouyeto and Fred Dumont for their patience during this shooting!
Freedom Fries
This 5-min movie was shot during the 2007 Nissan Outdoor Games. This was my 3rd participation in the event, but my 1st time as a team captain and director. The team consisted in : Joakim Ramsamy (climbing), Sam Beaugey (Base-jump), Guillaume Destouches (Dirt Bike), Arnaud Rocher (paragliding), Benjamin Durand (Assistant/2nd kayaker), Cyril Crespeau (Photographer) et David Arnaud (Kayaker - Director). This movie's already been elected in various film festivals around the world.
DVD "Torrents Alpestres"
Produced in Spring 2007 with the cooperation of the Hautes-Alpes Tourism Board and Canoe Kayak Magazine, this 20-min movie is aimed at a wide audience.
Built as a "road-movie", Torrents Alpestres takes the viewer to some of the most beautiful rivers of the area: Durance, Clarée, Guisane, Guil, as well as the Serre-Ponçon lake for a relaxed touring session.
The goal of this movie was to show the various whitewater activities that can be done in the Hautes-Alpes area, from beginners as well as experts.
15 000 copies of this DVD were distributed by Canoe-Kayak Magazine.

Short clips and movies
Over the years I've put together various clips or provided footage for other productions. Here's a list of video clips:
- Wild Water Adrenaline: a trailer from the Playstation 2 video game I worked on as a consultant. I provided most of the action footage. Did I mention I have my own character in the video game? ;-)
- The Guil headcam: the infamous "Gorge de Chateau-Queyras" shot from the inside!
- Outdoor Games 2006 / Bachelorette: in 2006 I was part of the "Ride The Planets" team for the Outdoor Games. This is the movie we produced for the film competition.
- David Arnaud - Freeride Kayaker: A presentation clip dating back from 2003, a mix of freestyle and creeking, and a dynamic editing. It's long been one of my favorites!
- Morocco: Guess what ? Morocco offers great WW paddling. It's not exactly the dry desert that most people imagine! The soundtrack is a traditional song performed by Hassan and Brahim who accompanied us during this trip in 2004.
